Come to Compete
Come to Compete
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting as a New Home Sales professional, you know today’s market is ultra-competitive. Even when the market is hot, if you don’t come ready to compete, you’ll find yourself struggling to keep up with the real prime movers in your area. Lose your edge, and you lose sales—it’s that simple.
If you aren’t seeing the great sales numbers you know you can achieve, it’s not all your fault.
It’s a tough market almost everywhere now: costs and interest rates are up and competition is stiffer than ever.
Don’t Let The Past Dictate The Future
If you’ve been struggling to make sales in the last few months or quarters, this can have a really negative effect on your mindset and performance. Your brain remembers fear and failure quite well, and if you’ve gone 2 months or more without a sale, you’re likely experiencing some negative self-talk. Fixating on stress or dealing with worries that you may lose your job or your business is not a great way to end—or begin—the year.
Stay positive, this is only temporary.
When you hear those negative voices creeping in, don’t give in to self-doubt.
Instead, answer those voices with positive self-talk:
- Draw from your past successes and experiences. Negative thoughts are just thoughts – not facts. Your past successes are facts, and it’s a fact that you can succeed.
- Look to those who’ve been where you’re at and succeeded. Since the time of Aristotle, wise people have known that modeling your actions after those who’ve gotten where you want to be helps you get there.
- Surround yourself with positive people. Those with negative mindsets will only add to the chorus of negativity, making it more difficult for you to achieve what you know is possible.
Negativity breeds more negativity, so don’t trap yourself in a web of irrational, negative thought.
Nothing good can come of it.
How To Truly Come to Compete
Now, drawing from your past successes, looking to those who have been where you are, and surrounding yourself with positive people may give you a strong Come to Compete mindset, but what are the other factors that come into play to get you out of a sales rut and onto the path of success?
- You train more. Just like world-class athletes, world-class sellers don’t get there by slacking off before game day. Training is what makes champions.
- You learn to do more with less. The key here is to focus on the more. The logic of doing more with less means increased productivity in the wider world of business, and new home sales is no different.
- You expect more from yourself. If you’re content with mediocre sales numbers, that’s all you’ll ever see. But I know that’s not you, and you know mediocrity has no place in today’s market. You can’t reach the stars without aiming high, so expect a little more from yourself every day than the day before.
